The Karmadi Journey

Diane Herns began her journey with English Springer Spaniels in 1983, establishing Karmadi Kennels with a vision to produce dogs that excelled in conformation, health, and temperament. Her dedication to the breed has resulted in an impressive legacy of champions, including multiple Best in Specialty Show winners and in 2007, MBIS MBISS Am/Can Ch Karmadi's Madam President finished in the USA as #5 All Breed, #1 Sporting Dog, & #1 English Springer Spaniel.

While Diane loved the show ring, she believed in listening to her dogs' preferences above all else. If a dog didn't enjoy conformation showing, she enthusiastically explored alternative activities that sparked their joy.

Her philosophy was simple but powerful: find what each dog loves to do, then excel at it together. This approach led to an impressive diversity of titles across her dogs—from agility and rally obedience to dock diving, lure coursing, scent work and obedience. Diane didn't force her dogs into predetermined roles; instead, she discovered their natural talents and built upon them.

Her true legacy lies in her commitment to bringing out the best in every dog, honoring their individual spirits while achieving remarkable accomplishments across multiple disciplines.

Embracing European Bloodlines

In her pursuit of breeding excellence, Diane imported a European boy, "Yoshi" (CH Lordsett Your Place Or Mine CA DM NS) to introduce valuable genetic diversity to her program.

While distinct from American Springers with his heavier ticking and full tail, Yoshi quickly earned his Canadian Championship, demonstrating exceptional conformation and movement. Though he preferred performance over the show ring, he found his true calling in dock diving, rapidly becoming one of North America's top competitors.

Yoshi further showcased his versatility through success in lure coursing and scent work, embodying the innate hunting abilities and athleticism that are hallmarks of both European bloodlines and Diane's breeding philosophy.

For generations, Diane's North American breeding program has been the foundation of the Karmadi legacy, establishing a reputation for dogs of exceptional quality, character, and consistency. Building upon this strong heritage, she is now embarking on an exciting new chapter by integrating esteemed European bloodlines into her program.
