The Karmadi Journey

Diane Herns began her journey with English Springer Spaniels in 1983, establishing Karmadi Kennels with a vision to produce dogs that excelled in conformation, health, and temperament. Her dedication to the breed has resulted in an impressive legacy of champions, including multiple Best in Specialty Show winners and the #1 English Springer Spaniel in the USA in 2007.

Throughout her breeding career, Diane has remained committed to improving the breed through careful selection, health testing, and a deep understanding of genetics. Her dogs are known for their sound structure, stable temperaments, and exceptional beauty.

Embracing European Bloodlines

In her continuous pursuit of excellence, Diane turned to European bloodlines to introduce genetic diversity and enhance her breeding program. This led to the importation of CH Lordsett Your Place Or Mine CA DM NS, affectionately known as "Yoshi."

While Yoshi exhibited some differences from American-bred Springers—such as more ticking and a full tail—he quickly proved his worth by earning his Canadian Championship. Conformationally correct with excellent structure and movement, Yoshi demonstrated the quality of European breeding.

Though Yoshi didn't particularly enjoy the show ring spotlight, he truly excelled in performance sports. Discovering a passion for dock diving, he quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the top competitors in North America.

His talents didn't end there—Yoshi also took to lure coursing and scent work with enthusiasm, showcasing the innate hunting abilities that are fundamental to the English Springer Spaniel breed. His success in these venues demonstrated the versatility and athleticism that Diane values in her breeding program.

For years, our North American breeding program has been the cornerstone of the Karmadi legacy, producing dogs of exceptional quality and character. Now, we turn our gaze across the Atlantic to welcome the influence of esteemed European bloodlines into our program. This intentional expansion represents our dedication to progressive breeding practices that honor the past while innovating for the future.
